A Night to Remember at Zagime Anishinabek First Nations

“Every shirt printed, every song performed, every kid in that room was a reminder of why we do this work.”

Some visits stay with you. Our afternoon and evening with the community of Zagime Anishinabek First Nations was one of them.

The day began with creation. A group of kids gathered around the printing station with Hugo from RBRTH, pressing their own custom t-shirts and walking away with something they made with their own hands. There is something powerful about that moment when a kid pulls a finished shirt off the screen and holds it up. It is theirs. They built it.

While the Ink Was Drying

Not every kid could be at the printing station at once, and that is where Drezus stepped in. Rather than letting anyone sit on the sidelines, he pulled the waiting group in close and started sharing his music. Playing tracks, talking about the stories behind them, and building energy for what was coming later that night.

By the time dinner was done, the room was already alive.

Showtime

When Drezus hit the stage that evening, the energy that had been building all afternoon finally had somewhere to go. He performed for the community and gave everything he had. That is what he does. Whether he is in a gymnasium in a remote fly-in community or on a festival stage, the performance is always full.

For the kids who had spent the afternoon with him, hearing his music and learning his story, watching him perform that night meant something different. They were not just watching a show. They were watching someone they had already connected with.

Thank You

None of this happens without the people who open their doors and make space for this kind of work. A sincere thank you to the Zagime Anishinabek First Nations for welcoming Creator’s Path into your community. And to the Yorkton Tribal Council for partnering with us and making this visit possible.

These are the collaborations that allow us to keep showing up for youth across the land.
